In this post, you’ll find 15 Disney cosplay ideas that are truly wonderful! There are so many Disney characters, it was hard to pinpoint just 15 of them. But I kept this list as diverse as possible (e.g. Disney princesses, Pixar characters, video game characters, newer series, etc).
I also thought about adding Marvel and Star Wars cosplays since they are technically part of Disney now. But I wanted to stick to the main Disney franchises for this post.
So here we go…15 cosplay Disney ideas!
DISCLAIMER: I have some affiliate links in this article if you’re looking to wear any of these cosplays. Either I myself have bought from those stores, or I truly feel they are great deals for a beginner cosplayer. If you’re buying from these sites, you’re also supporting me and my hobby so I appreciate it!
1. Cinderella (one of the first Disney princesses)
One of the classic Disney princesses, Cinderella is a timeless fairy tale. I’m sure most of us have watched Cinderella when we were kids at some point. So it won’t be hard for people to recognize who you are. As long as you have her dress and wig, she is an easy cosplay to do. Bring a Prince with you to make it even better!
2. Elsa from Frozen
Let it go, let it go! Frozen is likely the biggest franchise to come from Disney this decade. And there’s good reason why: the films have been great and the characters are so lovable, including Elsa of course. While she may not be as warm or friendly as Ana, Elsa is still the snow queen!
3. Sora and Kairi from Kingdom Hearts (Disney cosplay ideas from a video game!)
Is Sora a Square Enix or Disney character? That is up for debate, but I say both. He’s the main character of Kingdom Hearts, a game centered on Disney universes! He’s easily recognizable and fits well with any KH or Disney characters together.
Despite the look, Sora can be a difficult character to cosplay: he’s got large spiky hair, a big weapon called the Keyblade and really big shoes! So if accuracy is your thing, then Sora will take a bit more work than usual.
Having someone cosplay Goofy, Donald or Kairi would complement Sora really well.
4. Tinker Bell and Peter Pan (iconic Disney characters)
One of the most iconic mascots of Disney, Tinker Bell is a timeless character who is easy to cosplay! All you need is her green dress, those big wings, some heels and her yellow hair! Those wings are similar to Bloom from Winx.
5. Rapunzel from Tangled (Disney character with very long hair!)
Rapunzel is one of the newer Disney princesses. With her super long golden hair and cool dress, she’s a great choice for a Disney cosplay!
6. Pocahontas (Disney cosplay idea from the 90s)
I feel like Pocahontas has been forgotten in a sea of other Disney characters and franchises. But she was part of the Disney renaissance back in the late 80s and 90s. If you cosplay Pocahontas, perhaps the younger fans may not remember who she is. But us older cosplayers, we definitely will!
7. Aladdin and Jasmine (cosplays from a whole new world)
Both Aladdin and Jasmine are one of the most iconic Disney characters one of the best films from the 90s. Aladdin is a movie that most millenials have seen when they were kids, so Jasmine is definitely recognizable.
Aladdin is pretty easy to cosplay. Jasmine’s outfit is also fairly simple: baby blue tanktop and pants (or dress), with some gold embroidery. However, her black hair is very, very long. So be sure to order a large wig if you decide to cosplay Jasmine!
8. Ariel from The Little Mermaid (A Disney character with many cosplay variations!)
Whether you’ve watched The Little Mermaid or not, you probably know who Ariel is. The movie is over 30 years old but she’s still an iconic Disney character.
The cool thing about cosplaying Ariel is there are many variations you can do. You can go for her regular mermaid outfit, which I don’t recommend at conventions because it would hard to walk around! You can opt for a more casual version with regular clothing, as long as you sport her signature red hair. Her casual version usually is a blue skirt, a black corset, white long sleeve t-shirt and of course that red wig. I’ve also seen many Steampunk cosplays of Ariel that look amazing!
I feel like Toy Story isn’t the first franchise people think about when it comes to cosplaying. But some of the toy characters translate well into costumes! Both Woody and Jessie is a great excuse to wear cowboy/girl clothing. You get to wear an awesome hat!
Merida is a popular Disney cosplay choice and for good reason. She is strong, bold and of course brave! Although she is officially one of the Disney princesses, Merida doesn’t fit the stereotype at all; she is short-tempered and fights for herself. When you cosplay Merida, you get to wear an orange curly wig, a cool-looking dark green dress and get to wield a large bow!
11. Megara from Hercules
Another underrated Disney character, in my opinion. Meg is not your typical damsel-in-distress; she has a complicated history with her flaws. Yet she can survive and fight on her own and even helps out Hercules in his adventures. Not everyone will know who Megara is, but she’s one of those cosplays that would be truly appreciated by someone who does.
12. Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
I don’t have much to say about Esmeralda, other than she’s one of those obscure cosplays because The Hunchback of Notre Dame was a lesser known Disney film in the 90s. Her outfit is very unique, so she’s definitely worth considering for a cosplay!
13. Tiana from The Princess and the Frog
No, not the frog version; I mean the real Princess Tiana in her original form! I’m really surprised that I don’t see many cosplayers dressing up as her. I found the film pretty fun to watch and Tiana is a great character who just wants to start up her own restaurant. She wears a pretty lime green dress!
14. Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty
Maleficent is one of the greatest Disney villains of all time. She just looks pure evil, so evil that she’s one of the major antagonists in Kingdom Heats. However, the live-action film portrays her as a protagonist. You can go for the recent look of Maleficent, with just the devil horns with a black dress and cape. Or you can opt for her original look with the green skin color. Be sure to bring a staff with you to cast all your evil magic!
Last but not least for our cosplay Disney ideas, we have Mulan. If you haven’t watched the film, the plot is based on the legendary Chinese tale of Hua Mulan, where the daughter disguises herself in place of her aging father to fight in the army. The original Disney Mulan film was released back in 1998. But with the live-action movie being released 2020, now would be a perfect time to cosplay Mulan!
