It’s time for cosplay ideas for fat guys!
Let’s face it; most characters we see in Anime, video games, cartoons etc…most of them are in perfect shape. Whether they are tall, ripped, muscular or skinny, these characters we idolize tend to have perfect bodies.
Unfortunately, I feel the downside to this perfection is that we assume plus size cosplays are not possible. Things are slowly changing though as we normalizing body positivity in the community (Lome, Jordan Kass. 2016. “The Creative Empowerment of Body Positivity in the Cosplay Community.” Transformative Works and Cultures, no. 22.)
But while there have been more options for female plus size cosplays recently, I feel like plus size characters for males have been neglected.
Well today I am here to help you find male plus size cosplay ideas!
In this post, I will show you 15+ cosplay ideas for fat guys that you can pull off.
For this list, I wanted to mix it up and give you guys a variety of characters. So no, not all these characters are comedy relief or 2nd-rate characters. In fact, some of these options are top-notch heroes and villains. So not only are they good choices but you’ll feel good cosplaying them as well.
*NOTE: I used the term “fat guys” in the most polite way. It’s what people actually search for on Google, so that’s why I’m using that term in this post!
Without further ado, let’s get started!
1. Peter Griffin from The Family Guy
We tend to look to Anime and video games for cosplay ideas, but why not turn to Western cartoons for inspiration? Peter Griffin is the main character of Family Guy, a funny show that’s been around for a long time now. Peter Griffin is an icon!
2. Dragon Ball Z characters (Majin Buu, Nappa, etc)
When you think of Dragon Ball Z, you probably think of muscular Saiyans, skinny Androids, or Goku’s friends who are all lean and fit. But there are a couple of characters in DBZ worth cosplaying that are actually plus size friendly! These include Nappa, King Kai and Majin Buu (when he feels like transforming). Even though DBZ has been out for over 30 years, the series is still popular today. So if you cosplay from the series, many will recognize who you are.
3. Gragas from League of Legends
There are only a handful of plus size characters in League of Legends, but Gragas is one of them. If you ever wanted to be a kickass biker, then Vandal Gragas is the way to go.
4. Homer Simpson from The Simpsons
D’oh! If you grew up in the 90s (or somehow are still watching the series today), then you definitely know about Homer Simpson. He loves to eat a lot and his IQ level is somewhat…questionable. But make no mistake; Homer is well-known and loved by many.
5. Super Mario World
A lot of Mario characters are plus-size friendly! Mario and Wario are the first to come to mind. But if you rather be a badass villain, why not go for the most well-known bad guy in all of video games: Bowser! He might be a little complex to do, but you’ll look absolutely amazing if you cosplay as Bowser.
There are also other plus size Super Mario characters you can cosplay, such as Boo and Koopa Troopa.
6. The Juggernaut from X-Men
It’s the Juggernaut Bitch! One of the most badass villains of the Marvel Universe, the Juggernaut is an iconic character. He’s a big man who is incredibly strong, so you’ll find many similarities if you cosplay him. All you need is his mask and that custom-made suit.
7. Captain America
Captain America is an interesting character. He’s not a simple poster boy hero like Superman. Captain America has been through a lot of tough times and seen the worst in his world. So in that sense, he’s a hero in a troubled world and that’s what makes him special. I think Captain America is a great option in terms of cosplay ideas for fat guys.
8. Alphonse from Fullmetal Alchemist
Al from FMA might be a small kid in his real form, but his alchemical transformation turns him to a gigantic armored monstrosity! He might not be the easiest cosplay to pull off with all the armor. But he’s definitely a nice option if you’re plus size and looking to create a more challenging cosplay.
9. Dr. Eggman from Sonic
Dr. Eggman, Robotnik, whatever you want to call him. You might think he’s just comedy relief but to me, he can be a super cool villain. If you’ve watched the recent Sonic movie, Jim Carrey did an amazing job as Dr. Eggman, portraying him in a crazy and sinister way. This is why I’ve included him on the list. Dr. Eggman is a great option for you big guys out there!
10. Steven from Steven Universe
Steven Universe is one of the more popular cartoon series in recent years. Such colorful characters with a colorful story! For cosplay ideas for fat guys, I recommend going for Steven, the main character. He’s very easy to cosplay; all you need is a pink jacket, a t shirt with a star logo, some blue jeans and poofy hair/wig!
11. Psy from Gangnam Style
Am I the only one that still remembers this lovely song? I actually went to Gangnam last year when I was in Seoul. Psy might not be as popular as when his song came out, but his outfit is very easy to do!
12. Jiraiya from Naruto
The toad master Jiraiya was Naruto’s teacher in the beginning of the series with a unique personality. He was known to be quite the pervert! It’s too bad that he was killed relatively early in the series. If you’re looking for a sensei type of Naruto cosplay that’s plus size-friendly, then Jiraiya is for you!
13. Hercules
Hercules is a big guy, so it’s perfect for plus size cosplayers! He is the strongest man ever, after all.
14. Gluttony from Fullmetal Alchemist
One of the most memorable and favorite villains in FMA, Gluttony is a character that works for all body shapes and sizes, including plus size. Unlike Al, Gluttony is very easy to pull off. All you really need is black-coloured pants, shoes and a sleeveless shirt. And either have a bald head or wear a mask to cover your hair to look bald.
15. Fire Emblem characters
Of course I would mention Fire Emblem on this list because you know, it’s one of my favorite series! There are so many awesome characters in FE worth cosplaying (especially from Three Houses), and that includes cosplay ideas for fat guys! Some plus size friendly cosplays from Fire Emblem include:

- Oliver from Radiant Dawn
- Raphael from Three Houses
- Brom from Path of Radiance
