Anime North is a difficult convention to reserve a hotel room. Some of us were fortunate enough to snag a room. But most of us were not lucky and didn’t get one before they all sold out!
However, there is hope! A few hotel rooms open up during the last few days before the convention. People tend to cancel their reservations right at the last minute for various reasons (eg cannot attend, roommates bailed out last second making a room too expensive to afford on their own). Since most hotels around Anime North have lenient and generous cancellation policies that allow last-minute cancellations without penalty, this happens fairly often. So if you haven’t already got a room, now is the perfect opportunity to book one!
Here’s the list of hotels provided by Anime North:
Although the website lists all hotels being sold out, it doesn’t account for the room cancellations that are ongoing, which frees up space for new reservations.
So make a list of hotels you’d like to stay, and give them a call!
A few more tips:
-Be sure to call the hotel directly; you have a better chance of a successful reservation at this time on the phone than online
-If you’re unable to reserve a hotel room the first time, don’t give up! People are bound to cancel their reservations as the con date gets closer to this Friday. It may take a few tries before you’re able to book a room.
-Some hotels are only sold out of their Anime North “blocks” and not the entire building. In other words, these hotels are only sold out of their rooms that Anime North reserved. If you’re willing to pay a bit extra, you may be able to book because some rooms are available at regular price!
-There are other hotels in the area, such as the Radisson and Holiday Inn EAST, that are either not listed as official hotels for Anime North or do not have special rates. Since they’re not on the list, they may have rooms available. One CHG admin was able to book a room at the Radisson only a few days ago, so it’s worth a shot!
To conclude, having a hotel for an anime con makes the experience much more enjoyable, and we hope these tips will help those who are looking for a hotel!
