No prop making required

If you have no cosplay prop making skills whatsoever, then nothing to fear! I’ve compiled a list of ideas where you don’t need any sort of skill to make these props; you just have to buy the product in-store. Easy peasy!

1. Basketball for Lola Bunny

That basketball makes a huge difference! Cosplayer: gaby_cosplay. Photo taken by edgarddaherphoto.

Lola Bunny is one of the more popular characters to cosplay in recent times, especially with Space Jam: A New Legacy being released last year. And why not? Dressing up as Lola looks great on anyone and it’s incredibly easy to do. And all you have to do is add a regular basketball with you and you’ll complete her look! Dribbling and actual hoop skills are optional. 🙂

2. Kitchen utensils for Sebastian Michaelis

I’m sure at this point, many of us know who Sebastian Michaelis is. He’s the famous butler serving Ciel Phantomhive. Not only does Sebastian use his demon skills to fight off enemies, but he also uses utensils like forks and knives to attack their enemies! So bring some kitchen utensils with you to complement your cosplay. Be sure to verify with weapons check if you’re at a convention.

3. Sombrero for Luffy

Luffy from One Piece is one of the easier characters to cosplay. But cosplaying him is not complete unless you have a signature sombrero to wear! Fortunately, sombreros are not too difficult to find in a hat store, so head on down and pick one up if you’re going to cosplay as Luffy.

4. Food for Food Wars

That time when me and my friend did a real kitchen shoot!

Whether you’re cosplaying Soma or Erina from Food Wars, you’ll definitely want to bring something food-related as a cosplay prop ideas! I suggest bringing a small plate with food on it. It doesn’t have to be real food; it can be fake or something easy to carry around (e.g. cookies).

5. Gloves for Roy Mustang

Those gloves make your Roy cosplay look so much better!

Having cosplayed Roy Mustang myself, I can tell you that having his signature cotton gloves is essential to cosplaying him!  It ain’t the same unless you’re flinging fire and flames with a snap of a finger. So you can just buy regular cotton white globes and that’ll be fine. Or you can go the extra mile and add the alchemy symbol on the right-hand glove.

6. Winry Rockbell wrench

Winry Rockbell from FMA. She’s an awesome character and really easy to do. Photo by Tolyn. Licensed under CC BY 2.0.

Winry is also another character that’s easy to cosplay. And one way to spice up your Winry cosplay is by bringing a wrench. After all, she is a mechanic who specializes in fixing things!

7. Naruto headband

Many characters from Naruto wear a headband. The reason why I included it in this list is because it’s so easy to buy a Naruto headband; you might as well not bother making it on your own. Save yourself the time and just get one online. It’ll look great on you.

Easy to make cosplay prop ideas

Now that we’ve gone through cosplay prop ideas that require no preparation on your part, let’s talk about ideas that do require some building, but still easy to do.

8. Venti’s Holy Lyre

Venti cosplay
Cosplayer: ruruka0v0.

While Venti is known for being one of the Gods, he’s also a musical bard as well! And what better way to cosplay Venti than to have his signature musical instrument, the Holy Lyre? You can use any strong materials for the strings; it doesn’t have to actually be real strings you can play!

9. Sailor Scout wand

Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love..you know the rest. While we are mostly captivated by the outfits of Sailor Moon cosplays, the props they carry are just as wonderful. The easiest prop weapon you can make is Usagi’s small wand. It doesn’t have that much of a fancy design and it’s small, so it won’t be too difficult to make.

10. Catalyst weapon from Genshin Impact

Barbara is one of many catalylst users! Cosplayer: ruruka0v0.

In Genshin Impact, there’s a class of characters called catalysts, where they use their magic book to attack enemies. There are many different catalyst weapons, but they all compromise the same base, which is essentially a book. So just grab any ordinary book off your shelf and you’re already done half the work. Depending on the character, you just have to customize a look around the edges and you’re good to go!

11. Kunai from Naruto

You wouldn’t be considered a ninja without your trusty kunai! These things are like sharp little daggers that many Naruto characters use, most notably the Akatsuki gang. A great cosplay prop to make your Naruto cosplay look even cooler. Be sure to bring it into weapons check first at a con.

12. Princess Peach crown

If you plan to cosplay Peach or Rosalina from Super Mario, it simply isn’t the same without their legendary crown. You can’t be the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom or the Galaxy without a crown. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to make one. All you really need to do is measure the circumference of your head and go from there.

Medium difficulty cosplay prop ideas

In this category, we have cosplay props that do require a little more skill to make!

13. Edward Elric metallic arm

Aww yeah! One of Edward Elric’s most defining features is his mechanical right arm. While it’s not something he wanted, it’s what make his look very unique. I guess it’s not really a prop per SE. But the way you wear it as a cosplay, it’s definitely a prop! It shouldn’t be too difficult to make; it involves tracing your arm and your hand. And in the end, it’ll fit just like a long glove!

14. Nezuko muzzle

Nezuko is not only one of the most popular characters from Demon Slayer, but also one of the most hyped cosplays in recent memory. So you cosplay her, then you gotta wear that signature muzzle in your mouth. In case you’re wondering, Nezuko is a demon herself, so she wears it in order to avoid biting others and infecting them as well. So the muzzle serves a purpose. And I say you should definitely include it if you plan to cosplay Nezuko.

15. Dark Magician girl wand

Dark Magician Girl is an iconic character from Yu-Gi-Oh. Her outfit is simply amazing. Why not complement that outfit with the wand that she uses? Much like Sailor Moon’s wand, it doesn’t take much to create it. It’s one of the easier cosplay prop ideas out there.

16. Ichigo sword

Ichigo is the main character from Bleach and he’s making a comeback this year when a new series airs this year (hopefully). With that in mind, Ichigo looks even better when you’re holding a sword. It’s a fairly narrow sword, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to make.

17. Staff of Homa

What is the Staff of Homa? It’s one of the most powerful weapons in Genshin Impact, and arguably the signature weapon of Hu Tao. Aesthetically speaking, it looks beautiful and if you plan on cosplaying Hu Tao, you should definitely considering having the Staff of Homa as your cosplay prop!

I say creating a Staff of Homa isn’t too difficult. Only the top part of the staff requires some precise detailing.

18. Marth’s Falchion sword

Best sword ever!

One of my favorite cosplay props of all time, the Falchion is Marth’s signature sword. Surprisingly, it wasn’t heavy for me to carry and I enjoyed having it with my Marth cosplay. To this day, I’ve only had to repair it a few times and I’ve had it for several years now.

19. Majora’s Mask

One of the most iconic items in all of Zelda. The Majora’s Mask is the whole basis behind the game, so of course it’s well-known. Making the base of a mask is no biggie. But painting the mask design itself can be a little tricky!

20. Harley Quinn’s hammer

Before Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn used to carry a big hammer with her! So if you decide to dress up as Harley’s earlier days, then perhaps you want to consider bringing that huge hammer with you. You can use a dowel for the handle, and a variety of materials for the barrel (top part of the hammer).

Most challenging cosplay prop ideas!

In this category, we have cosplay prop ideas that are definitely the most challenging. These will require a lot of skill and technique in order to make these!

21. Shulk’s Monado

I’m really feeling it! Shulk is the main character of Xenoblade Chronicles, and he carries his fairly unique sword with him, called the Monado. The one I have is a more simplified version with just paint on it. But you can do go all out by adding LED lights over the sword!

22. Megumin staff

Explosion! Megumin is from KonoSuba and she carries that awesome staff that is responsible for all those memes we love about her. As with other staff props, it’s the top part that is the most difficult. You can use a tiny fishing line to make the ball seem like it’s floating!

23. Froppy goggles

Who doesn’t love Froppy? She’s one of the most adorable characters from My Hero Academia! And if you plan on wearing her jumpsuit, then I suggest also wearing her big goggles that come with the outfit. I say this is one of the trickier cosplay prop ideas to pull off. But it’ll look awesome when you wear it!

24. D.va gun

You can never go wrong with Dva! Photo by kxz Chen. Licensed under CC BY 2.0.

It just wouldn’t be the same cosplaying D.va without her signature weapon gun nerf blaster! I’m putting this one in the most difficult category, because it does take a lot of time and effort to make a replica gun (and precise cutting of EVA foam). The good news is that you can easily buy a replica gun for fairly cheap. Even Wal-Mart sells it!

25. Naofumi shield

Shield Hero cosplay
I loved this shield!

I say you cannot cosplay Naofumi without his signature shield! He doesn’t quite look the same without it. In terms of difficulty, it’s definitely one of the more difficult cosplay prop ideas. It involves precisely cutting the parts and gluing them together perfect, as well as installing the shield light and battery for it. I myself got it commissioned by someone to do it for me.

26. Sora’s Keyblade

One of the coolest weapons ever, and cosplay prop by extension! Sora’s unique sword is the Keyblade. So if you decide to cosplay the main character of Kingdom Hearts, definitely bring a Keyblade with you! With so many unique features of the Keyblade, it definitely is one of the trickier cosplay props to make.

27. Wolf’s Gravestone

Like the Staff of Homa mentioned earlier, the Wolf’s Gravestone is one of the strongest weapons in Genshin Impact. Not only that, the weapon itself looks so badass! If you plan on cosplaying a character that uses a claymore (i.e. big sword), then you should consider having this prop to make you look even cooler. Given how large the Wolf’s Gravestone is, as well as the unique red lining, it’ll be one of the more difficult cosplay props to create.

28. Lightsaber

Photo by 7S Photography. Cosplayer: allure_cosplay.

May the force be with you! Not much has to be said about the Lightsaber; it’s the iconic weapon that many Star Wars characters used to deal with their enemies. Although it looks simples, building a Lightsaber on your own is definitely not easy!

29. Cloud: The Buster Sword

Cloud is probably the most well-known character from any Final Fantasy series. But what makes him stand out even more; his Buster Sword! If you decide to cosplay Cloud, you’ll look even better if you carry his iconic sword around with you. Keep in mind that making this sword is really difficult, considering how big it is and the unique features it has (e.g. holes in the sword itself).

30. Link’s Master Sword and Hylian shield

The granddaddy cosplay props of them all. When we think of cosplay prop ideas, the Master Sword and Hylian Shield are usually the first things to come to mind. No Link cosplay is complete without these two. Are they challenging to make? Oh yes!

Summary

To summarize, here are the 30 cosplay prop ideas I have for you:

  1. Basketball for Lola Bunny
  2. Kitchen utensils for Sebastian Michaelis
  3. Sombrero for Luffy
  4. Food for Food Wars
  5. Gloves for Roy Mustang
