Cosplay Room!

You probably see it all over YouTube. Cosplayers with their cute, fancy and lovely cosplay rooms! You’ve always wanted to have a room like this. Full of Anime posters, figurines. Your bed full of cute plushies and body pillows. And whatever else fulfills your Weeb-like desires.

You also want a station where you can make your cosplays effectively and safely.

But how do you get started? How much will it cost to have the dream room you always wanted? And does it take a lot of effort to do so? That’s some of the of the questions I will be answering!

How to make your own cosplay room

Before you start purchasing stuff and placing things, you want to have a plan of the layout you’re going to have for your room. The most essential items for your cosplay room includes: a table that holds your sewing machine and cosplay equipment, a wardrobe or clothes hanger to hold your costumes and of course your bed and walls to have all your Otaku-related merchandise.

In this article, I’ll go through 5 steps on how to create your cosplay room so you’ll be living the Weeb lifestyle while also having the best setup with creating cosplays.

By the end of the post, you’ll be finally able to build your dream cosplay room.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

1. Set a budget for yourself first and stick to it.

When you see other cosplayers, friends or YouTubers with their shelves of figurines, library of manga and walls of posters, you can want to take over their room or completely mimic what they have inside!

But the truth is, it can be extremely expensive to come even close to that kind of dedication. Just one figurine alone is easily over $100 USD. So if you buy like 10 of them, that’s easily over a thousand dollars! So keep your expectations reasonable.

The first thing I recommend is making a budget. How much are you willing to spend? How much money do you have? And which items are the biggest priorities?

Here are the items I feel are the most to least expensive.

  • Figurines
  • Video game consoles
  • Cool lighting for your room
  • Body pillows
  • Plushies
  • Manga
  • Pins
  • Posters

With just a few posters and some manga, you can make your cosplay room look very Otaku-friendly! So you don’t need to destroy your bank account on figurines in order to complete your room.

2. Start with the essentials for your cosplay room.

Put simply, you don’t have to own every single thing in a cosplay room! You may go broke if you do. So just go with the essentials first.

In my opinion, here are the items that are essential to your cosplay room:

  • Your bed to sleep on!
  • Tables to put your cosplay stuff (e.g. fabric, equipment like needles and scissors)
  • Sewing machine
  • Wardrobe or hangers to hang your cosplays
  • Wig heads to hang your wig

Optional

  • Lighting, backdrops and tripod for self photoshoots
  • Your Weeb stuff

3. Collect reference photos for ideas.

I know for me, I have a relatively basic idea when it comes to creativity. So if I were to design my own cosplay room, it would be pretty basic to be honest. Therefore, if you’re like me and not that artistic, I recommend saving photos and videos of other cosplayers or people that have already made their own cosplay room. Get ideas and inspiration from them. Take ideas from various rooms and make the final design your own!

And when you finish your cosplay room, share a few photos with your friends and get some feedback on how to improve and make it even better! Don’t worry, we’re all Weebs so we absolutely love the Otaku stuff you added to your amazing room!

4. Design your room, one step at a time

Once you have the ideas you want for your cosplay room, it’s time to implement them! If you already have your room setup, then it’ll be a lot easier to customize when you have the big items like your bed already in place.

However, if you’re starting your cosplay room from scratch, it’ll definitely take a lot longer. What I recommend is setting up your room as you would normally, and then worry about the Anime and cosplay stuff later.

Do remember that creating a cosplay room is not a race to the finish line! You can slowly create your room into a cosplay-themed that can take weeks or even months if you want. There’s no rush .

5. Share your cosplay room to others!

Be proud of your cute and awesome cosplay room. Share them with your friends and followers to get their feedback on how to improve it and to get more ideas. Take lots of photos or even do a short video with a grant tour of your cosplay room.

And there you have it; 5 steps on how to make your cosplay room! It’s really not so difficult; it really is your oyster when it comes to your own room.

The most important thing to know is to stay within your budget and that your room does not need to exactly look like others. That’s it!
