Luggage friendly cosplay ideas!
I’ve been doing a lot of traveling lately. And recently, I went to an Anime convention that was outside of my hometown. One thing I had to consider was the cosplay I wanted to bring. Not only did I want my cosplay to fit in my small carry-on bag, I also wanted to make sure nothing would get ruined inside the suitcase on the way there.
I decided on a convenient cosplay to bring for the event, and it worked out well. But it got me thinking; which cosplays are ideal for bringing on a trip with you? Which costumes can you easily fit in your luggage without it getting ruined? And that’s what I wanted to talk about today!
In this post, I’ll go over my top 10 Luggage Friendly Cosplay Ideas for you to try. These characters are not only cool to cosplay, but you’ll find it easy to carry their costume and parts within your suitcase. That way, you can attend international cosplay conventions with ease.
So what is a luggage friendly cosplay? Here is my criteria:
- They must not take up tons of space. Pretty self-explanatory, you want the cosplay to easily fit in your luggage, not take it up entirely. So no Princess Peach or Gundam Wing cosplays; those characters would take up way too much space. Save those for a local convention, or one where you have access to a vehicle.
- All the parts must easily fit into 1 bag or be regular clothing. You want your cosplay to be easily accessible. You don’t want a bunch of parts when traveling, because it’s inconvenient and easy to lose. So I wouldn’t recommend cosplaying Genshin or Overwatch, where a lot of characters have tons of accessories to wear.
- The wig cannot have any special styling. Ideally, you want to cosplay a character with simple styling, one where you can throw the wig into a small bag inside your suitcase. This could be a short wig or a long wig. But if the styling is so elaborate that you need a mannequin head to maintain it, then you cannot bring that cosplay with you. The styling will get ruined inside the luggage when in transit.
Alright, now that I laid out my criteria, let’s get into the luggage friendly cosplays!
1. Sports Anime
First and foremost, I wanted to share the best option with you, and that would be sports Anime cosplay. They were by far the best types of cosplays to bring with you while traveling. Not only are they portable and compact to bring around, they are also budget-friendly (click here to see all the budget-friendly cosplay ideas for you). For most characters, it’s literally shorts and the jersey, and maybe a wig to go a long with it. It’s that simple!
Some popular sports Anime include Haikyu, Free!, and Kuruko No Baske.
2. Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist
This guy I know a lot about! He is probably my signature cosplay that I’ve done, and I can tell you that Roy Mustang is easy to transport around. His military outfit is lightweight and doesn’t take up a lot of space. And his hairstyle is very simple, meaning you can safely store the wig in your suitcase. In my case, I actually used my own hair instead. I highly recommend Roy Mustang for a luggage friendly cosplay.
3. Nami from One Piece
One of the most prominent characters of the long-running One Piece, Nami is a great choice for a cosplay idea. And even better, she’s perfect for a cosplay you need to take on the go. All you need are her signature blue jeans, the green bra and her long orange wig. All of those things you can easily fit in your luggage!
4. Bugs Bunny/Lola Bunny from Space Jam
Oh yes! I am a huge fan of Space Jam, so of course I have cosplayed Bugs Bunny very often. And I can tell you from my own experience that it’s incredibly easy to bring his cosplay to an international convention. The Space Jam jersey and shorts take up very little space. The grey wig is very flexible and fits perfectly in a small bag, along with the bunny ears. As for shoes, I just use my regular white Canvas shoes that I’m already wearing. If you want a female character, you can opt for Lola Bunny.
The only potential issue is if you want a basketball as your prop. That unfortunately is not luggage-friendly, so I’d recommend buying a basketball in the local area once you arrive there. Other than that, both Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny are great for a portable cosplay.
5. Haruhi from Ouran Host Club
Ouran Host Club is absolutely one of my favorite series of all time! I grew up watching the Anime and always adored the show (and secretly hoping for a 2nd season). Cosplaying from Ouran is incredibly easy. All you need: black dress pants, dress shoes, white dress shirt, black tie (purple stripe is optional in my opinion), and the signature blue blazer. All of these items will fit nicely into a suitcase; just make sure you fold the clothing nicely so it doesn’t get wrinkled. But if it does, you can always iron it afterwards. And I chose Haruhi because she has the easiest hairstyle to do.
6. Android 17 and 18 from Dragon Ball Z
Dragon Ball Z is such a great series to cosplay from! However, you probably don’t want to bring a Goku or Vegeta costume with you abroad. That Super Saiyan wig will definitely NOT fit nicely into your suitcase, and the outfit is huge! But fear not, there are other characters you can do, and those 2 characters are Android 17 and 18. Both these siblings wear regular clothing that’s easy to transport.
7. Ash and Misty from Pokémon
The two most iconic characters from the Pokémon Anime, in my opinion. And both are easy to carry around in a luggage. Like Android 17 and 18, Ash and Misty wear basically regular clothing. So you’ll be saving a lot of luggage space!
8. Mr. Clean
White shirt, white pants. However easy is that to carry around with you? Very easy!
9. Chloe Price from Life is Strange
Chloe Price is the iconic character from the hit series video game, Life is Strange. She is a badass who does things her own way. And like the other characters on this list, Chloe’s outfit is basically regular clothing.
10. Kim Possible
Last but not least, we have Kim Possible! She has a black tanktop, dark green pants, and long orange hair. Not too many things you need to cosplay as her!
