Scary cosplay ideas!

I get it; it’s not Halloween yet. But you still want to cosplay someone scary! After all, spooky characters are fun to cosplay. So you may be wondering who should you cosplay as? Well, that is what this post is for!

In this article, I’ll give you 10 scary cosplay ideas that’ll spook everyone around you. These ideas are from a variety of fandoms including Anime, video games and cartoons. I’m sure you’ll love some of these characters, even if you don’t know them.

Without further ado, let’s go!

1. Hu Tao from Genshin Impact

Spooky Hu Tao! Cosplayer: ruruka0v0.

Hu Tao Boo Tao! If you don’t know, Hu Tao is one of the most popular characters from Genshin Impact. She is the director of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, so naturally she deals with all things morbid and spooky. But she’s also one of the cutest and adorable characters as well, making her such a great wonderful option for cosplay.

If you plan on cosplaying Hu Tao, then I recommend bringing her Staff of Homa as a weapon prop. (If you want to know some cosplay prop ideas, click here).

2. Pyramid Head from Silent Hill

Oh yes! Considered one of the scariest characters of all time, Pyramid Head is an iconic villain from the Silent Hill series. And rightfully so; wouldn’t you be freaked out if you saw a bloody person with a literal pyramid head?

He was a popular character to cosplay back in the day. But even today, Pyramid Head is still a great option as a scary cosplay idea. You’ll definitely be recognized at a convention if you decide to cosplay him!

3. Rize Kamishiro from Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul is one of the defining Horror Anime in recent memory. While you can cosplay any characters from Tokyo Ghoul such as Ken or Touka, I recommend cosplaying Rize Kamishiro. Being one of the spookiest characters in the series with her evil and manipulative ways, Rize is a perfect option for those looking to dress up as a villain. The nice thing is that she’s not too difficult to cosplay either; you mostly regular clothing to dress up as her.

4. Among Us

Cosplayer: why_astrid.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, then you probably heard of Among Us! It’s a popular multiplayer game, made famous during the pandemic when we all had to socialize virtually. While you can always cosplay the regular crewmates, in terms of scariness, you want to dress up as one of the imposters/killers. That is definitely spooky indeed. 🙂

5. Ryuk from Death Note

If you want to cosplay someone who truly looks evil and scary, then you should definitely consider Ryuk from Death Note. Although a lot of people absolutely love Ryuk, don’t forget he is quite the scary character himself! He’s not an easy character to cosplay. But if you can pull it off, you’ll look amazing as him!

If you have friends with you, ask them to cosplay as Misa or Light. That would make a great Death Note cosplay trio!

6. Yuno Gasai from Future Diary

No scary cosplay ideas list would be complete without the poster girl of Yandere; Yuno Gasai from Future Diary! Although Yuno does have a cute and attractive appearance, in reality she is quite the scary girl with a huge obsession with Yukitero. She will go to any lengths to protect him, even if it means lethal force.

The more psychotic you look as Yuno, the scarier you will appear in cosplay!

7. No Face from Spirited Away

To this day, No Face is a notable character from the legendary Studio Ghibli. Spirited Away is a great film and No Face is literally the face of scariness from the movie. I’m sure lots of people were scared when they first saw him. After all, he does look very scary! No Face does seem like a lot of fun to cosplay. You’ll definitely scary the kids on Halloween if they don’t know who you are.

8. Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil

One of the newest characters from Resident Evil, Lady Dimitrescu took the cosplay world by storm in 2022! She is one of the major villains in Resident Evil Village and although she looks sexy, she is also wicked and evil. With her scary demeanor and awesome design, Lady Dimitrescu was a lot of fun to cosplay for many people.

Here is a great video by Yaha Han with her iteration of Lady Dimitrescu. You will look marvelous and spooky at the same time!

9. Titans from Attack On Titan

Attack On Titan has been one of the most popular series of all time in recent memory. And while we love our cast of protagonists such as Hange Zoe and Mikasa Ackerman, it’s the titans that really stand out; they are incredibly scary! In the series, they are just so horrifying to the human race.

So if you want to look scary, then you should consider cosplaying one of the titans. It’s pretty easy too; you just have to wear a bodysuit.

10. ReDead from The Legend of Zelda

If you’ve played Zelda when you were younger, then you probably know of the ReDead enemies. I remember playing Ocarina of Time as a kid and being so terrified seeing them in the village! They are so creepy and scary, with their hollow face and how they scream and jump on you if you get close.

Since there are tons of Zelda fans, you’ll get a nice reception if you decide to cosplay a ReDead. They’re a memorable enemy that we all had to fight in the game.

Bonus

Zombie cosplay

Everyone loves zombies, so why not cosplay as one? You can find a zombie costume at most Halloween stores. And if you want to go all out, you can add some fake blood onto your skin as well!

Pennywise

I’ve noticed Pennywise getting a resurgence in the cosplay world. And why not; he’s a freaky-looking character!
