Winter cosplay ideas!

If you’re lucky enough to have a cosplay convention happening during the winter, then you’ll probably want to dress up for the occasion. However, maybe it’s not the best time to put on a swimsuit cosplay or dress up as a character who doesn’t wear much to begin with (Jinx from League of Legends as an example). After all, it’s probably super cold where you are right now.

Well, not to fear. In this post, I’ll give you 15 winter cosplay ideas you need to try. Not only are these character outfits great in cold or snowy weather, some of them make sense from a lore standpoint (e.g. think of those snowy Anime or video game scenes).

Without further ado, let’s get started!

1. Albedo from Genshin Impact

The master alchemist! Cosplayer: libracos.

Albedo is the master of alchemy in Genshin Impact. He spends a lot of his time in Dragonspine, a super-cold region in Mondstadt where a lot of mysterious things are happening. This is why I recommend cosplaying Albedo for a winter cosplay. Not only is the outfit pretty cosy for cold weather, he also fits with the snow if you decide to take pictures outside during the winter.

2. Elsa from Frozen

Let it go, let it go! Frozen is likely the biggest franchise to come from Disney in recent years. And there’s good reason why: the films have been great and the characters are so lovable, including Elsa of course. While she may not be as warm or friendly as Ana, Elsa is still the snow queen!

3. Sebastian from Black Butler

Sebastian is great for cooler weather!

Simply one hell of a butler! Sebastian is one of the main characters of Black Butler, an older but classic series. Sebastian was one character I cosplayed often during cold weather. It’s basically wearing a suit with the dress pants, dress shirt and blazer, although Sebastian’s blazer looks a lot cooler. Not only that, I’ve also worn a trench coat on top of the cosplay, and it fits perfectly. So I highly recommend cosplaying Sebastian if you’re looking for a cosplay for winter. Bring a Ciel with you as well!

4. Mina Ashido from My Hero Academia

Another cool-looking and awesome character from MHA, she is incredibly upbeat and cheery! Mina is pink-colored and looks like an alien. While not being very good in her studies, Mina is very cheerful and outgoing.

5. Naofumi from Shield Hero

Naofumi’s costume is nice and comfortable. 🙂 Photo by pastreflections.

Shield Hero has been a popular Anime in recent years, so you should definitely consider cosplaying as Naofumi, the main character of the show. The best of cosplaying Naofumi is wearing his famous shield of course. As someone that’s cosplayed as him, he’s great for cold weather. Not only that, you get to wear nice boots with his costume. Highly recommend. Naofumi is also great with Raphtalia as a couples cosplay.

6. Protagonist from Persona 5

Protagonist from Persona 5!

Looking cool Joker?!

Protagonist….as you can guess….is the main character of the popular RPG game, Persona 5. Like all P5 characters, their outfits are totally beautiful, fun and amazing. The blazer keeps you warm for sure. Having worn a Protagonist cosplay myself, I totally enjoyed it.

7. Melony from Pokémon Sword and Shield

Melony is the ice queen in Pokemon Sword and Shield. She is the gym leader of Chirchester stadium in the game and if you couldn’t guess from her outfit, she specializes in ice type Pokemon! Since Melony fits the archetype for a winter character, she is a great choice for winter cosplay ideas.

8. Yuri from Yuri On Ice

We can’t talk about cold weather cosplay ideas without mentioning Yuri On Ice! This series was incredibly popular a few years back and for good reason. With memorable characters like Yuri and Victor, as well as covering interesting themes, Yuri On Ice is a great cosplay choice, especially if you’re into skating! When I used to host cosplay skating events, Yuri On Ice was definitely a popular cosplay. It’s only fitting to cosplay them while on ice!

9. Ayaka from Genshin Impact

Embrace the ice!” -Kamisato Ayaka

Ayaka is one of the first characters you meet in the Inazuma region in Genshin Impact. She is a cryo (ice) specialist. Not only is her outfit beautiful, but she also is powerful with her ice attacks. Ayaka fits perfectly with any winter-themed backgrounds for cosplay photos. And her clothing is great for cold weather.

10. Marth from Fire Emblem (or most Fire Emblem characters)

Fire Emblem and snow go well together! Photo by istofuuuu.

In my experience, Fire Emblem cosplays are better for colder weather than hot weather. I certainly have enjoyed cosplaying as Marth when it was cold; the costume itself kept me at a good temperature. On the other hand, I have sweat my butt off during summer conventions as Marth. So if you want to cosplay from Fire Emblem, I highly recommend doing so in cold weather. Besides, Fire Emblem armor looks great with snow!

Rhea from Fire Emblem: Three Houses

11. Shinobu from Demon Slayer

Shinobu is one of the more popular characters of Demon Slayer. Similar to Todoroki in My Hero Academia, Shinobu is quite the complex character. While she appears to be cheery on the outside, she’s actually very aggressive and angry on the inside due to the events that happened to her in the past. Demon Slayer is full of snowy Anime scenes, and Shinobu is a great character to dress up in the snow!

12. Attack On Titan

Cosplayer: maggivy.

We thought that Attack on Titan would be over in 2021. But not yet; there’s a 2nd part to the final season of this wonderful series. Why would we want Attack on Titan to end anyways? It’s been an awesome fandom for the longest time and in terms of cosplay, AoT is perfect if you have a group of friends. You can all wear the military outfits! It’s great for beginner or casual cosplayers.

Those Attack On Titan jackets or bodysuits are also really nice in cold weather, so it only makes sense to cosplay from the series in cold weather.

13. Princess Tutu

You’ve heard of the story about the Ugly Duckling, right? Well this series takes that story to a whole new level. Princess Tutu is about a duck that’s been given an amulet, allowing the duck to transform into a girl who becomes Princess Tutu. She sets out on a quest to regain a prince’s shattered heart in order to save him.

Overall, she is a cute character to cosplay. If you’re into dresses or ballerina, Princess Tutu is perfect for the outdoors. Like Yuri On Ice, Princess Tutu would make for a fitting cosplay on skates!

14. Kakashi from Naruto

Who doesn’t love Kakashi? He’s everyone favorite teacher and leader from Naruto! He’s one of the most popular characters from the series. I put Kakashi on the list because his outfit is well suited for cold temperatures!

15. Spark from Pokémon GO

Gotta represent my PoGo team Instinct. Photo by mireadcartoons.

Last but not least, we have Spark from Pokemon GO. He’s the leader of Team Instinct and he’s always looking so cool. I wore him once during a convention in the winter and it was great. The jacket looks good for cold weather. And all you need is regular black jeans for the bottom and you’re good to go.
